Admissions

Students and Parents,

We have a rolling admission policy and are accepting students entering grades 5 through 11 for the 2010-2011 school year.  If you are interested in applying, please send an e-mail to admissions@schoolfortomorrow.net or call 301-460-4747.

Our expectation is that the majority of applicants will be capable of thriving at SFT and making a positive impact on our community.  Undoubtedly, however, there will be some students whom we cannot serve well, who can be served better elsewhere, or who would unacceptably detract from the experience of their peers.  Our highly personalized, multi-faceted admission process is aimed at ensuring that we do not admit any student who is not a good fit.

It is essential that you are open and honest throughout the process, as we will be.  We do not want to be burdensome or overly intrusive, but in certain cases we may need to dig deeper in order to feel confident we are reaching the right decision.  If at any point there is something we can do to make the process easier for you, please let us know.  We will be as flexible as possible.

The following are our application process steps:

  1. Complete and submit the SFT Admission Application, including separate sheets containing answers to the Questions for the Applicant and Questions for the Applicant’s Parent(s)/Guardian(s).
  2. Complete the SFT Transcript Request form and submit it to your current school.
  3. Distribute the SFT Confidential Teacher/Educator Recommendation Form to three teachers or other educators (e.g., counselors, coaches, tutors) who know you well.  Ideally, at least one of them will have a good sense of your math skills and abilities, and another of your English skills and abilities.
  4. Upon receipt of the Admission Application, we will contact you to schedule an in-person interview.  For your convenience, we are open to holding these interviews during the day, in the evening, or on weekends.  We will interview the prospective student and parent(s) both together and separately (during the same visit with us).  We are happy to answer any questions you may have for us during the interview, or at any other time.
  5. On or before the day of the interview, submit a $40.00 non-refundable application fee to School for Tomorrow.
  6. On or before the day of the interview, submit any standardized or other educational test results, recent report cards and progress reports, and other materials relevant to assessing the Applicant that you have available (beyond what your current school will provide us in connection with the Transcript Request).  Depending on which, if any, test results you have to show us, we may request that the Applicant complete an in-house SFT assessment test (at no charge).  Grades, test scores, and other measures of past performance are relevant to us only insomuch as they indicate something about potential performance as an SFT student; we will delve behind the surface of grades and test scores and take into account the context in which they arose.
  7. We have a rolling admission policy.  Once the in-person interviews have been completed and we’ve received the requested transcript, test results, and three teacher/educator recommendations (as well as any other requested information), we will be able to inform you of our admission decision within two weeks.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail admissions@schoolfortomorrow.net or call 301-460-4747.  Thank you!

Tuition & Financial Aid

Tuition for the 2010-2011 school year is $26,000.  Our goal is to establish a significantly larger financial aid program than any other independent school in the D.C. area, allowing for a substantial number of our students to receive scholarships; that is our long-term fundraising priority.

Nondiscrimination Policy

School for Tomorrow is committed to the ideal of diversity in its student body, faculty, and staff.  As such, the School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or age in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, curricular offerings, hiring and terms of employment of administrators, faculty, and staff, and other school-administered activities and programs.
